The British Council APPG’s inquiry will explore the role that UK education, research, and arts and culture can play in maintaining and strengthening bilateral ties with European countries, and in supporting UK soft power.

Evidence will be gathered by convening a series of roundtables with policymakers and sector experts from the UK and Europe.  The oral evidence roundtable sessions will seek to understand from European and UK experts how cultural, educational and people to people connections can contribute to effective bilateral relations between the UK and European nations post-Brexit.

The five evidence sessions, in a roundtable format, will run February to April 2019 on the following themes:

  • Launch: 30 Jan
  • Arts and Creative Industries: 6 Feb
  • Higher Education and Research: 27 Feb
  • English Language learning: 20 March
  • Primary and Secondary Education: 6 April
  • How we compare with other countries’ efforts in Europe: date tbc

The report produced based on the oral and written evidence will identify existing best practice, and look at models for future co-operation, including any gaps highlighted.
